- Online Safety
Online safety at Woodfield School is a vital part of safeguarding. Our CLP-Online-Safety-Policy works alongside our CLP-Child-Protection-and-Safeguarding-Policy-24-25 , guiding how we teach children to use technology safely, protect them from harm, and handle any concerns that arise.
Who Leads on Online Safety?
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) works closely with staff, governors, and the IT Team to ensure that our online systems are monitored, harmful content is filtered, and any issues are dealt with promptly. They keep staff and governors well-informed so that everyone understands the importance of online safety.
How We Monitor and Manage Online Behaviour
In school we are able to monitor and deal with any inappropriate online behaviour. Staff keep a close eye on students’ screens in person, and they can also view what’s happening on multiple devices using special software. We check network logs to see which websites have been visited and use individual device monitoring tools that alert us if someone tries to access inappropriate content. By combining these methods, we can quickly notice and respond to any problems.
How We Teach Online Safety
Online safety is integrated into everyday learning at Woodfield School. Through Tutor Time activities, Assemblies, IT and PSHE lessons, we teach students to:
- Recognise and report inappropriate content and behaviour
- Act kindly, responsibly, and safely online
- Protect their personal information and understand privacy settings
- Understand that once something is posted online, it can be very hard to remove
We stay updated with new websites, apps, games, and emerging technologies (such as AI tools) to ensure our lessons and safety measures remain effective in addressing these issues.
Working Together with Parents
Parents and carers play a crucial role in online safety. We encourage you to:
- Talk openly with your child about what they see, do, and share online
- Set clear guidelines around screen time and discuss whether apps or sites are suitable
- Remind them never to share personal information or images with strangers
- Check privacy settings and discuss how to identify and avoid harmful or misleading information
